Below I’ve listed my wardrobe staples. I’ve been caught without having one or two of these items on occasion and it just makes life more difficult. At times these items help complete an outfit and without them you, like I have, may choose not to wear what you originally intended. Let me know if I’m missing anything. This is a perfect compliment to my Tall Jean Guide and Top Resources for Large Size Shoes articles.
Check out the links within the post. Some of them link to past guides or helpful sites.
This can go under blazers, jean jackets or worn alone.
Perfect for business attire. You can where it under a blazer and it’s dressier than a cotton tank or shirt. Also, it’s lighter than wearing a regular shirt especially if you know you’re not going to take your jacket off.

Short Sleeve Black T-Shirt (cotton)
Goes great with any pair of jeans. Can be dressed up or down with accessories. I recommend cotton because it’s a breathable fabric that works for all seasons.
I’m more of a blazer gal myself, but there are some outfits that call for a cardi. It comes in handy when you need to dress in layers.
My obsession with Blazers is real! The only reason I don’t have more is because it’s really hard finding blazers that fit right. I featured the one below from Banana since I love the last jacket I purchased from them.
Black Pencil Skirt (A-Line)
Essential for work; however, it’s also great for special events.
Little Black Dress
Great for all occasions. I’ve used the one from Long Elegant Legs a number of times.
Black or Navy Blue Suit
You just never know when you’re going to need one. Invest in a high quality versatile suit. The one below was custom made by Bindle and Keep in New York. The key is finding a style that works for you. Also, Moi-Meme is a custom suit site that has a tall women section.
You can get a pair of nice long dress pants at multiple retailers. I advise in investing in a quality pair that you can wear forever (or at least several years). Just remember to dry clean them.
You need a comfortable pair of jeans you can throw on at a moments notice. Check out my Tall Jean Guide for store options.
Great summer pant to have handy.
Crisp White Shirt
Must have, especially if you’re a working Gal. Check out the post I just did on the one from Long Tall Sally.
I recently did an article featuring polkadot and striped pieces. A must have for me is a striped shirt that I can use to spice up an outfit.
Another must have. When you know you’re going to be walking a lot you want a comfortable shoe. You can also throw these in a bag so you can change in to them later.
What can I say…these will go with any outfit. I would get a heel height you’re most comfortable in.
Riding (Tall) Boots
It’s a trend that I’m in love with…skinny jeans and riding boots. I don’t see it going anywhere for awhile. I suggest purchasing a brown and black pair. If you only want to buy one pair go with a dark brown.
I have a navy blue one that I got from Long Tall Sally years ago. It’s perfect for work, rainy days, and even to help dress up jeans.
This is one of those items that you don’t need…until you need it. Pick a style that is comfortable, but also gives you proper support.
I just complete my swimsuit guide a few months ago. You never know when you’ll need one for a quick trip to the beach or Caribbean vacation. Don’t wait until the last minute to find one that you’re comfortable with. Just invest now.
For those special events. Purchase one that will work well for weddings, Christmas parties, and special dates.
UDPATE: I don’t know how I forgot this one, but they are also a must have:
These come in handy to go with long t-shirts and short dresses. I suggest getting ankle length and cropped.
